Getting Started with EC2 on AWS

Step 1: Log in to AWS Marketplace​

Step 2: Find Sparrow Community Edition​

  • Search for Sparrow Community Edition using the top search ba
  • Open the product page

Step 3: Review and Accept Terms​

  • This step allows you to review the product details and pricing. Make sure to read and accept the terms before proceeding to the configuration page.

  • Click on view purchase option

Step 4: Launch your software​

  • Initiate the deployment by selecting the launch option, which will guide you through configuring and starting your Sparrow instance on AWS.

Step 5: Configure the software​

On the "Continue to Launch" page, you will see the configuration options for your Sparrow Community Edition deployment.

Make sure the following options are selected:

  • Fulfillment Option: 64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

  • Software Version: 1.3.0 (Jul 09, 2025)

  • Region: US East (N. Virginia)

Pricing Information:

  • Software Cost: $0/hr (Sparrow Community Edition is free)
  • Infrastructure Cost (EC2 t2.medium): Approximately $33/month (this may vary depending on your usage and region)

After reviewing all the details, click Continue to Launch to move forward.

Note: You can adjust the instance type or region based on your performance requirements and budget, but using the default options is recommended for a quick start.

Step 6: Launch the software​

On this screen, you will be asked to choose how you want to launch the software. You’ll see two available options in the dropdown:

  • Launch from Website – Launches directly from the AWS Marketplace UI

  • Launch through EC2 – Redirects you to the EC2 Management Console for more advanced configuration options

Both methods are valid. For the purpose of this guide, we will proceed with Launch through EC2 to give you better control over instance settings such as VPC, subnet, security groups, and key pairs.

Select Launch through EC2 from the dropdown, click on Launch button and continue to the next step.
